Cameroon’s Nkama replaces slain compatriot at Algerian club

Gregoire Nkama
Cameroon striker Gael Gregoire Nkama has signed for Algerian club JS Kabylie to replace Albert Ebosse, his compatriot killed when playing for the Algerian side four months ago.

“It will be very difficult for me to replace Ebosse,” Nkama, the top scorer in the Cameroon first division last season, told Algerian newspaper Competition on Tuesday. Ebosse, 25, died on August 23 after a game his club lost 2-1 at home to USM Algiers.

The official Algerian version holds that Ebosse died in hospital from head injuries sustained as he left the pitch under a hail of objects thrown from the stands by angry fans. He was struck on the head by a sharp projectile, the official report said.
Late Albert Ebosse

On Tuesday, Algeria sports minister Mohamed Tahmi dismissed claims that he could have been killed in a ‘premeditated’ dressing room attack.
Those claims were raised by a second autopsy conducted by a Cameroonian pathologist, carried out at the family’s request. It refuted the official findings and declared that the player had died as the result of a brutal post-match beating, probably in a dressing room attack.
