Youuppiieee!!! Merry Christmas to you all. Some people have argued that Easter should be celebrated more than Christmas because the latter signifies the birth of Jesus Christ and by then he was just another baby, people did not know and believe he was going to become the Messiah. So by Easter, His miracles and teachings were known all over the world, he resurrected from the dead etc. Whatever whoever says, I do not see any other season taking over the excitement of Christmas. At the end of the day the most important thing is for us to understand the significance of these Biblical calendars and strive to make them serve as guidelines in our lives.
Apart from the Christian duty of going to Church on that day, the other thing I enjoy doing is cooking. Yep! I just loooove to cook.
To me Christmas Menus should be very light. Many will agree not to have just one dish on Xmas especially not when it`s because they are already too full to munch more from the table. Many people who`ll visit you that day must have eaten from wherever and so will enjoy finger foods more. It`s also not fun to stay in the kitchen preparing one strainous dish to the other. it`s a day to relax and have fun. It`s not that easy to come up with a light menu given the nature of proper Cameroonian dishes, but don`t let that spoil your fun. Here`s what I`m proposing for Christmas.
Bowl of vegetable salad |
Salads are a must have for every occasion. It`s the most common starters we have around. You and your guests will definitely enjoy some.
Egusi pudding
Miam, miam! Anybody loves this as much as I do? Then you are my friend!
Miondo |
My must-have for every occasion especially one organised by me. Miondo and egusi pudding... I want!
Dodo- fried ripe plantains |
This is one of the first things to get finished on any table.
Ndole |
If you have men in the house you might be forced to do atleast one traditional dish. Ndole can be eaten with dodo, miondo or yam.
Yam |
I love yams as well. Perfect with ndole!
fried rice |
Yummy! No table without rice on the big day.
Roasted pork
Charcoal roasted pork... Enjoy!
Roasted fish
Enjoy this with miondo or dodo.
Roasted chicken |
To me the best way to consume fish or meat is when it`s roasted... I want!
Pepper soup |
Yummy! We offered this to our guest last year and they couldn`t stop thanking my mum. Remember to eat light! Pepper soup is also a starter.
Tomato sauce |
I was raised to always serve tomato sauce without fish or meat on occasions. this can be eaten with yam, miondo or dodo.
Pepper sauce
You don`t know the pepper intake of possible guests so it`s always advisable not to cook with pepper, rather serve it separately as pictured...
Pizza |
Some people wouldn`t mind having just this with a glass of juice or wine.
Quiche |
Now this could be some additional kilos but going all the way on Xmas won`t hurt anybody. By the way my mum makes the best Quiche!
Chocolate cake |
Now dessert!
Fruit salad |
Just what I crave for after a delicious meal.
Ice cream |
if you can`t make this at home, purchase from any nearby super market. It adds some class to your small party...I loooove ice cream.
Tea |
It is quite healthy to take a cup of normal tea after every meal. It eases digestion and burns out some extra calories.
That`s how my table will look like in six days...can`t wait! And yours? What would you add or remove?
