Black Doll Created By Nigerian Man Is Outselling Barbie

A man who couldn't find a black doll in the shops as a gift for his niece decided to take matters into his own hands.

In 2007, Taofick Okoya, 43, created his own doll that Nigerian girls could identify with by recreating their skin colour and style - and it is now so successful that it is outselling Barbie.

The doll, which is called Queens of Africa, comes with traditional outfits and accessories and costs around £4.50.

Russia To Arm Cameroon Against Boko Haram

Russia has unveiled plans to provide military assistance to Cameroon to support that country's combat against the Islamist terrorist organization Boko Haram.

Russian Ambassador to Cameroon Nikolay Ratsiborinski told Cameroonian President Paul Biya that Moscow will provide a wide range of military equipment to the Cameroonian armed forces with the aim of supporting its counterterrorism efforts, the president's office said in a statement.

Boko Haram Frees Group of Cameroonian Captives

At least 20 of up to 80 people taken hostage by Boko Haram militants in Cameroon at the weekend are reported to be free.

Cameroon's defence ministry said the hostages were freed "as defence forces pursued the attackers who were heading back to Nigeria".

Many of those kidnapped in the cross-border raid were said to be children.

Sad News: Muna Obiekwe Is Dead

I feel really terrible each time a young person dies. Muna is a household name in the Nigerian film industry. He died late yesterday afternoon after losing his battle with kidney failure. Reports say he was going through financial hardship to fund his health bills but he chose not to go public with his struggles.
