ETH Zurich supports excellent students wishing to pursue a Master’s degree at ETH with two scholarship programmes:
Under the Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) students receive a special scholarship for the duration of their programme as well as specific supervision. The scholarship covers the full study and living costs during their Master’s degree course.
Under the Master Scholarship Programme (MSP) students receive a partial stipend during their Master’s degree course and the offer of an assistantship.

Who can apply?

The scholarship programmes are open to excellent students both from the ETH and from other universities (national and international) wishing to pursue their Master’s degree at ETH Zurich. The prerequisite is a very good result in their Bachelor’s. Students must belong to the best 10 percent of their Bachelor’s programme.
The application consists of
All information provided in the application must be complete and correct. The pre-proposal for the Master's thesis must be developed by the applicant him/herself and use established scientific citation practice.

Plagiarism, negligent or intentional misinformation will lead to exclusion from the admission process or - if discovered later - to the revocation of the admission and of any scholarship.
If you are applying for more than one Master’s programme, please submit a separate application form for each degree programme.
You can only apply for an Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme or a Master Scholarship Programme if you, at the same time, apply for a Master's degree programme at ETH Zurich (or if you, as an ETH Bachelor student, continue with a consecutive Master's degree programme). If you are already enrolled in a Master's degree programme at ETH Zurich, you are not eligible to apply for this scholarship anymore.

Scholarship amount and duration

The Excellence Scholarship consists of a grant covering living and study expenses (CHF 11,000 per semester) as well as a tuition fee waiver. The scholarship begins when the student commences his or her Master’s degree and is awarded for the regular duration of the Master’s programme (three or four semesters). It is awarded independently of the scholarship holder’s financial situation.
The Master Scholarship consists of a partial stipend for living and study expenses (CHF 6,000 per semester) as well as a tuition fee waiver. The department can additionally provide a scholarship of CHF 1,500 – 3,000 per semester or offer an assistantship from the second semester onwards (with a payment of CHF 600 per month).
The scholarship begins when the student commences his or her Master’s degree and is awarded for the regular duration of the Master’s programme (three or four semesters). It is awarded independently of the scholarship holder’s financial situation. The Master Scholarship Programme requires a financial contribution from the scholarship holder.

Selection

The applications are evaluated by the Admissions Committees of the respective Master’s programmes. The final decision for awarding scholarships in the Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme and in the Master Scholarship Programme rests with the Rector of the ETH. The number of annual scholarships depends on the availability of funds.

4) VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP)

The VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP) offers talented prospective students the unique opportunity to pursue a degree in a selection of Master’s programmes at VU University. VU University has committed to providing approximately 1 million euro towards attracting highly motivated, excellent students.

All applications received by 1 March will be reviewed by the faculty at which the applicant will be participating in a Master’s programme. Faculties then nominate applicants to the central VUFP scholarship committee, which then awards scholarships to the most talented students. The award is based on the motivation letter, the quality of previous education and the student's academic performance therein. A scholarship offer will then be made to successful candidates.
Eligible candidates
The VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP) is a scholarship for strongly motivated students with excellent study results.
Eligible candidates must be able to prove their academic excellence, must be admitted to a preselected Master’s degree at VU University, do not have the Dutch nationality and have not graduated from a Dutch higher education programme.
Students following a one-year Master’s programme may not apply for the VUFP scholarship for a second year. Students already enrolled in a two-year Master’s programme who have not been awarded the VUFP scholarship in 2014/2015 are not eligible to apply for the VUFP scholarship 2015/2016.

Scholarships amounts

The VUFP scholarship covers your tuition fee, and provides for an allowance towards study and living costs (paid out in 3 installments over the year).  Please note that the scholarship does not cover all your living expenses.
There are two variations of the VUFP scholarship:
The grant is awarded to students in their first year  of a Master’s degree programme. Only students following a 2-year Master’s programme may apply for a second year and the prerequisite for a second application is the achievement of  at least 80% of the 60 possible credits. The Faculty VUFP committee will be asked to demonstrate to the Central VUFP committee that these credits have indeed been achieved.

Application procedure

From the 19th of December (we recently moved forward this date from the 1st of December), students can start applying for the VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP). Before this date, we will publish the exact application procedure, so keep an eye on this page if you're eligible. The deadline for application is set to the 1st of March 2015.

Conditions VUFP scholarship

Current VUFP scholars
VUFP scholars following a two year Master’s programme do not need to re-apply for the VUFP scholarship for the second year. The VUFP scholar will be nominated for a second year provided that he or she has obtained at least 80% of all ECTS. Faculties will inform the VUFP committee in June if sufficient results have been achieved.
VUFP candidates will receive an e-mail from the Central VUFP committee on or around the 1 July 2015 containing a nomination letter, the conditions of the VUFP scholarship and a statement of agreement. Candidates return the signed statement of agreement to vufp@vu.nl.
Students who have not achieved sufficient study results will be informed that they will not be offered the VUFP scholarship for the next academic year, unless there are clear reasons why the results were lower than average.
